Job Description
Our client, a company operating in the railway signalling and safety-critical systems sector, is seeking an Expert Test Engineer to join a small Agile team focused on ETCS (European Train Control System) applications. This is a long-term assignment ideal for a professional experienced in both manual and automated testing in highly regulated, safety-critical environments.
Context
You will join a cross-functional Agile team including developers, analysts, and business analysts, working on Java-based signalling applications.
You act as the testing reference for a safety-critical environment subject to strict quality, signalling, and cybersecurity standards (ISO 9001, EN50.128, ISO 27001, NIS).
Main Responsibilities
Define and maintain test strategy (manual and automated) for ETCS-related applications
Design, execute, and document functional, integration, and regression tests
Set up and maintain automated test suites using Selenium, ReadyAPI/SOAP-UI, Ranore
Configure and use Jira, Xray, GitLab, Jenkins for test management, traceability, and CI/CD integration
Ensure test coverage and compliance with applicable quality, signalling, and cybersecurity standards
Contribute to user acceptance tests (UAT) and support business teams during UAT phases
Report defects clearly, investigate root causes, and follow up with developers and analysts
Produce clear, complete, audit-proof test documentation
Actively contribute to continuous improvement of testing practices within the Agile/Scrum team
Profile / Requirements
Required Skills \& Experience
10+ years of experience in manual testing
5+ years of experience in test automation
ISTQB certification
Solid experience with Jira and Xray (minimum 5 years)
Experience with ReadyAPI or SOAP-UI (minimum 2 years)
Experience with Selenium (minimum 2 years)
Experience with Ranorex
Experience with Agile/Scrum ways of working (minimum 5 years)
Experience with GitLab and Jenkins (minimum 2 years)
Knowledge of at least one relevant standard: ISO 9001, EN50.128
Strong interest in cybersecurity principles and ICT standards
Ability to work autonomously and proactively on complex, business-critical projects
Language Requirements
French or Dutch: C1 (fluent in communication with local teams)
English: B2 (comfortable in technical discussions and documentation)
Soft Skills
Understanding of railway infrastructure operations and ICT challenges
Ability to integrate smoothly into teams, reflecting values such as reliability, courage, positivity, and kindness
Strong ownership, professionalism, and commitment throughout the assignment
Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to explain testing choices to technical and business stakeholders
