Mercury is a bold future-focused organisation, providing energy and telecommunications to more Kiwis than anyone else, leading the way with renewable energy and working toward a sustainable future. At the heart is our purpose. Taking care of tomorrow: connecting people and place today. This pushes us to do all we can to create a better future for our people, our communities, and Aotearoa New Zealand.
Tā mātou arawātea \| Our Opportunity:
We’re looking for a Practice Lead – Business Analysts who is passionate about the BA craft and about people. Someone who lights up when they see teams thrive, who leans into conversations about engagement, and who genuinely cares about creating an environment where Business Analysts feel valued, supported, and excited about the impact they make.
This role is about leading a community, not managing from a distance.
Tāu e mahi ai \| What you'll be doing:
As Practice Lead – Business Analysts, you’ll:
Lead with heart and intent – creating psychological safety, trust, and a strong sense of belonging across the BA community
Lift engagement by listening deeply, acting on feedback, and bringing energy, clarity, and purpose to the practice
Grow people and capability through coaching, mentoring, and clear professional standards
Partner closely with delivery leaders to ensure BAs are set up to deliver meaningful outcomes
Shape the future by building a sustainable capability plan
Working as one practice community
You won’t be leading the Business Analyst practice in isolation. You’ll work closely with the BA Lead as well as Software Engineering and Test Practice Leads to align on:
Shared leadership behaviours and expectations
Common ways of working that support squads and value streams
Consistent approaches to learning, development, and career pathways
A strong, connected culture across all delivery crafts
Together, you’ll shape an environment where Engineers, Testers, and Business Analysts collaborate seamlessly focused on value, flow, and great outcomes, not functional silos.
You’ll stay connected to the real work — participating in planning, retrospectives, and practice conversations — so your leadership is grounded, relevant, and trusted.

Genuinely enjoys improving culture, engagement, and ways of working
Builds strong relationships across delivery, technology, and the business
