Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager / Engineering Manager / Lead Software Developer / Software Developer Manager to join our team in our Horsham (UK) office.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a senior software engineer with people management responsibility from day one. Alongside contributing directly to software development, you will be accountable for the performance, development, and wellbeing of a team of developers.
You will provide clear technical direction, set engineering standards, and ensure the delivery of scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions aligned with business objectives. Working closely with cross-functional stakeholders, you will translate business requirements into effective technical solutions while fostering a high-performing, collaborative development team.
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys balancing technical delivery with people leadership, takes ownership of outcomes, and is motivated by developing both systems and individuals.

Key responsibilities
Manage a team of software developers, including objective setting, performance management, feedback, and development planning
Lead the design, development, and maintenance of robust, scalable applications
Remain hands-on in development, contributing high-quality code and technical solutions
Provide technical leadership across the team, including architectural direction and technology choices
Set, uphold, and continuously improve coding standards, development processes, and best practices
Conduct and oversee code reviews to ensure quality, security, and maintainability
Mentor and support developers at varying stages of their careers
Collaborate closely with product, operations, and other business stakeholders to deliver solutions within agreed timeframes
Champion continuous improvement across the development lifecycle, including quality, performance, and security
Technical environment
Our current core technology stack uses .NET, React and SQL Server. Other technologies used within our products are Python, Spark, Kafka, and Kubernetes.
We are open to candidates from other technical backgrounds and value strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
Essential skills and experience
Significant experience in professional software development across back-end and front-end technologies
Strong experience working with databases and APIs (e.g. SQL or equivalent)
Strong experience with a modern object-oriented programming language (e.g. C#, Java, or similar)
Strong experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g. React, Angular, Vue, or similar)
Version control experience (e.g. Git)
Demonstrable experience of formal line management or people leadership within a technical environment
Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desirable
Experience working with the listed technologies.
Experience leading or scaling development teams
Experience mentoring developers and conducting structured code reviews
Basic knowledge of the telecommunications industry
Experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
