We are looking for an individual with high standards of excellence to join our engineering team to build amazing experiences that are robust, fast, and seamless. The ideal candidate is skilled at design and implementation, able to own large architectural designs and collaborate well across multiple partner teams.

As a Principal Software Engineer on the Edge Engineering Systems team, you will be part of a team passionate about enhancing developer productivity by building and supporting high-performance, large-scale Azure-based cloud services integrated into Windows, Mac, and Linux and mobile development environments. You will work within the Edge client codebase (derived from the Chromium Project), with Azure DevOps, and multiple Azure technologies such as Cosmos DB, Service Fabric, App Service, Kubernetes Service, and many others. You will get to collaborate with a diverse community of engineers and help with AI adoption across entire development cycle. Our team uses a variety of Microsoft and open-source technologies to support Edge on all platforms where our customers are.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. Be a great technical leader for the team and broader organization. You will be working with a very technical diverse team of six plus developers and expected to provide technical directions.

Architect and develop robust scalable software designs, own technical strategy, have an informed opinion about how the software should evolve and ability to land your design with high quality and on time.

Rigorous quality engineering practices across all phases of product development and deployment.

Collaborate across multiple services and platforms to advance end-to-end architecture in partnership with other Engineering Leaders and Architects.

Apply agile development principles to continuously deliver value and readily adapt to evolving requirements.

Communication and collaboration with engineers and program managers in open-source projects.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

6+ years of professional industry experience working on large projects.

Excellent design, coding, debugging, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to design performant, highly usable, scalable, world-ready, accessible software.

Ability to create layered, componentized, testable, interface-based designs.

Consistent track record of shipping compelling technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:* Experience in C# or equivalent high-level language.

Experience with python, PowerShell or relevant scripting languages.

Experience with Microservices and Azure or equivalent cloud infrastructure.

Experience in Cloud deployment, Deployment automation, CI/CD.

Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other web technologies is a plus.

Experience with Windows architecture and internals is a plus.

Experience architecting and integrating AI/ML tech stacks, experience with production-grade LLM workflows and ability to drive efficiency through advanced prompt engineering is a plus.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
