Job Description

At Microtechnix, we are shaping the future of pharmaceutical microbiology QC. By focusing on high-end imaging systems, automation and the implementation of the latest AI innovations, we contribute to improving the reproducibility of pharmaceutical quality control processes. We strongly believe that digitization in combination with vision AI can have a significant and positive impact on quality control in pharmaceutical manufacturing – ultimately impacting human and animal health.

You will work at the core of EMMA’s workflow engine. Every step in the microbiology QC process—from plate handling, barcode identification, and image capture to triggering AI-based analysis routines—is driven by Python modules and hardware/software drivers. Core responsibilities

Maintain and refine EMMA’s automation workflow, writing clean Python code that controls robots, high-resolution cameras, barcode readers, printers, and other QC devices.

Trigger and manage AI/vision analysis modules that process images captured on EMMA.

Integrate new hardware devices by developing and maintaining the corresponding drivers and APIs.

Improve our robot-based workflow framework, boosting flexibility, performance, and robustness.

Collaborate closely with hardware, robotics, imaging, and AI specialists to ensure smooth interaction between physical systems and software logic.

Debug complex issues spanning multiple layers (robotics → imaging → workflow code → AI outputs).

Contribute to architectural improvements to keep EMMA scalable and validated for pharmaceutical QC environments.

Who you are

A strong Python developer who writes maintainable, modular code.

Someone who enjoys working at the intersection of software, robotics, imaging systems, and automation hardware.

Comfortable with SDKs, APIs, communication protocols, and device-driven software architecture.

Curious about—or experienced with—computer vision or AI-based image analysis. (Full expertise is not required; affinity and willingness to learn are highly valued.)

Analytical, hands-on, and eager to solve problems involving both software and hardware components.

A collaborative communicator who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Formal qualifications

Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, IOT or equivalent experience.

Solid experience in Python (3+ years recommended).

Experience with or interest in vision AI / image processing workflows is a plus.

Familiarity with software engineering best practices

(testing, CI/CD, code reviews).

Fluent in English; other languages are a plus.

Located within 45 minutes radius from Microtechnix HQ (Sint-Niklaas).
