Data Architect

As the Data Architect you will design and prototype complex data and analytics solutions that deliver business outcomes, ensuring alignment to enterprise architecture and the RBNZs strategies, frameworks and practices.

Near horizon focused, hands on, multi-stack data and analytics architecture and engineering design lead opportunity.

Join a supportive team working hard to extend best practice, including new investment in advanced analytics platform design and build work over the next 4 years.

Participate in implementing platform extensions supporting complex modelling, user-controlled orchestration of analytics pipelines, LLMs, and adopting GenAI across data and analytics engineering and data science practices.

Wellington or Auckland based role with flexible working options.

Te turanga - The role and your impact

You will be working closely across the Technology Directorate, in partnership with Data and Information, to maintain the Data Architecture practice with appropriate frameworks, tools, and standards.

Your key responsibilities will be:

Collaborate across the wider business to create consistently high-quality data and analytics platform solution architecture designs that meet business needs. Work closely with the DataOps Lead, Data Engineers, advanced analytical modelling specialists and Data Scientists to ensure alignment with business outcomes and digital and data strategies.

Identifying and analysing data assets and developing data schemas and data architecture models.

Prototyping and implementing new data and analytics platform and application solutions using: dbtCloud, Snowflake (including Notebooks, Streamlit, Schemachange [Python]), Microsoft PowerPlatform / Dynamics, PowerBI, and potential future containerisation and orchestration extensions such as Airflow.

Overseeing architectural changes to data management pipelines including future ingestion and replication tools (CDC), APIs, and developing specifications used by data providers (banks, insurers, non-bank deposit takers).

Providing advice and guidance on data and information asset investment, business solutions, and decision-making related to data and analytics strategy, data transformation, storage, security and monitoring.

Contribute to the development of the Digital and Security, and Data and Information strategies.

Presenting data-focused solution designs to the Architecture Board (AB) and Design Authority (DA).

O pukenga - About you

To be successful in one of these roles you'll have:

Relevant tertiary level qualification or 15+ years' relevant experience including technical leadership and mentoring data engineering teams.

Deep experience designing and building hybrid data and analytics platforms for delivering robust, high performance operational environments integrating on-prem and multi-cloud environments with strong DevOps, FinOps and SecOps monitoring.

Experience with data ingestion, transformation, orchestration and DevOps tools, especially in Azure hosted tenancies and SaaS environments. Snowflake, dbtCloud and Python / YAML experience is highly valued but the main attribute needed is the ability to learn fast with a strong background in research and development. This will require current advanced level data engineering, integration and data modelling skills in modern cloud and hybrid data and analytics platforms.

Experience delivering data architecture services, CICD pipelines, FinOps and observability monitoring frameworks tailored to advanced analytics and high availability operations support.

Understanding and practical experience in architecture modelling methodologies tools and methodologies such as TOGAF, but with emphasis on detailed solution design.

Experience of setting data and technology standards, product selection for infrastructure hardware, software and research into new and emerging technologies.

A proven track record of successful senior stakeholder management between technical and non-technical teams.
