We are working with a federal government client to engage a highly experienced Senior GCP Engineer to design, build, and operate secure, scalable cloud environments on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
This role will play a critical part in establishing and evolving GCP platforms that meet strict government architecture, security, and compliance requirements. You will bring deep technical expertise in GCP, combined with strong leadership skills, to deliver cloud solutions that support mission-critical services.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and manage enterprise-grade GCP environments aligned with government security and architecture standards
Lead the development of scalable cloud infrastructure across compute, data, networking, and security services
Build and maintain secure network architectures including VPCs, hybrid connectivity, load balancing, and DNS
Implement robust identity, access, and encryption controls using Cloud IAM, VPC Service Controls, and Cloud KMS
Automate cloud operations and platform management using code and scripting
Act as a technical lead, providing guidance, mentoring, and escalation support to engineering teams
Troubleshoot complex cloud, networking, and identity issues across distributed environments
Support hybrid and multi-cloud integrations with on-premise systems or other cloud platforms
Collaborate with architects, security teams, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with federal government standards
Contribute to continuous improvement of cloud governance, tooling, and operational practices
Essential Skills \& Experience
Extensive hands-on experience designing and operating solutions on Google Cloud Platform
Strong knowledge of core GCP services, including:
Compute: Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Run
Data: BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Dataproc
Networking: VPC architecture, Cloud Load Balancing, Cloud DNS, hybrid connectivity
Security: Cloud IAM, VPC Service Controls, Cloud KMS
Proven experience implementing automation or tooling using Python, Go, or Java
Strong understanding of cloud security principles, governance, and enterprise architecture
Experience working in hybrid or multi-cloud environments
Demonstrated ability to lead technical delivery, mentor engineers, and review technical outputs
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex cloud concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desirable Experience
Experience working within Australian Federal Government or regulated environments
Hands-on knowledge of government security frameworks such as PSPF, ISM, or ASD Essential Eight
Experience with Anthos, Kubernetes-based platforms, or large-scale data migration tools
Background in SRE, platform engineering, or reliability engineering
GCP certifications (e.g. Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Cloud Engineer)
