As an Asset Engineer, you will play a key part in managing the full lifecycle of Northpower’s network assets, ensuring they perform safely, efficiently, and sustainably. Working within our Asset Investment and Strategy team, you will use your engineering expertise to analyse asset performance, contribute to long term investment planning, and support strategic decision making across the business.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical challenge, problem solving, and making a real impact on critical infrastructure that supports thousands of New Zealanders every day. What You’ll Be Doing:
Lead a Strong Safety Culture
Identify and support strategic safety initiatives
Ensure asset safety in design and implementation
Promote public and contractor safety by managing network risks
Drive Asset Management Excellence
Analyse asset performance, risks, and failure modes
Document asset management principles, standards, and strategies
Collaborate with engineering, planning, and operational teams
Contribute to technical specifications, maintenance standards, and design guidelines
Support Investment Strategy \& Network Performance
Contribute to developing 10 year investment strategies
Assist in asset fleet strategies and operational expenditure planning
Support development of asset management systems, data, and software solutions
Ensure Delivery of Infrastructure Investments
Monitor investment programme delivery
Provide insight into prioritisation and efficiency improvements
Support development of dashboards, reporting, and analytics
Leverage Technology \& Innovation
Research and analyse new technologies
Identify tools and software to enhance asset management processes
Recommend solutions that improve long term network performance
About You:
A degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar technical field)
Experience in an electricity distribution network (NZ or overseas)
Understanding of asset management frameworks and lifecycle principles
Familiarity with common assets in electricity distribution environments
Strong analytical skills and ability to make clear, evidence based recommendations
Excellent written communication, including technical and business case writing
Ability to collaborate across teams and challenge existing practices constructively
Strong time management skills and a commitment to internal and external customers
