About the Team

Our team develops, manages, and continuously evolves the enterprise systems that underpin Spatial Services’ operations. We provide the platform engineering and DevOps capability that keeps our spatial data, digital services, and mission‑critical applications running reliably, securely, and at scale.

We design and maintain core technology platforms including ArcGIS Enterprise, FME, Kubernetes, and our DevOps pipelines, supported by a broad ecosystem of tools such as Python, Java, Node.js, ETL frameworks, monitoring/observability tools, automation frameworks, CI/CD systems, and container orchestration technologies.

As custodians of these enterprise systems, we work across architecture, development, deployment, integration, automation, monitoring, and operational support. Our focus is on building resilient platforms, reducing manual effort through automation, and enabling fast, safe, and repeatable delivery of services.

About the Role

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering Spatial Services’ platform and automation strategy. You’ll lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of the systems, pipelines, and cloud‑native platforms that support our spatial applications and enterprise workloads.In this senior role, you will:* Drive improvements using Bitbucket Repositories, Bitbucket Pipelines (CI/CD), automation, containerisation, and AWS CDK (IaC) to modernise and standardise our delivery practices.

Engineer and maintain AWS platforms, ensuring reliability, performance, security, and scalability.

Enhance and support configuration, deployment, and integration pipelines across technologies such as ArcGIS Enterprise, and internal digital systems.

Lead initiatives to improve observability, monitoring, logging, and system resilience.

Identify opportunities to optimise operational processes through automation, scripting, and tooling.

Provide technical leadership and guidance across the team, influencing architectural decisions and modern DevOps best practices.

Collaborate closely with developers, analysts, architects, and non‑technical stakeholders to ensure our platforms enable great customer and organisational outcomes.

Success in this role requires deep technical expertise, a strong understanding of operational environments, and a passion for solving complex problems. Your ability to clearly communicate technical concepts, mentor others, and champion continuous improvement will be critical.

Key Responsibilities* Design, implement, and enhance CI/CD pipelines (ideally Bitbucket), build automation, and deployment processes.

Engineer, maintain, and optimise AWS-based platforms for performance, reliability, and security.

Lead improvements in AWS CDK (IaC), configuration management, automation tooling, and platform standardisation.

Support and enhance systems across ArcGIS Enterprise, container platforms, and internal applications.

Improve monitoring, observability, alerting, and logging to increase system insight and resilience.

Investigate and resolve complex technical issues across environments and technology stacks.

Mentor team members, contribute to architectural decision‑making, and guide technical design.

Collaborate with developers, analysts, architects, and stakeholders to deliver high‑quality, scalable digital services.

Key Challenges* Managing and improving complex, interdependent enterprise systems.

Balancing operational responsibilities with long‑term platform enhancement and automation initiatives.

Modernising legacy processes and systems while maintaining stability for business‑critical services.

Ensuring platforms remain secure, resilient, and scalable as workloads grow and evolve.

Translating technical concepts for diverse audiences and building strong cross‑team relationships.

Essential Requirements* Extensive experience in AWS DevOps engineering

Strong expertise with the AWS CDK, and the AWS suite utilising containerisation, and orchestration platforms.

Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (ideally Bitbucket)

Proficiency in scripting or programming with tools such as Python, NodeJS, Java, Bash,

PowerShell, or similar.

Experience with AWS Infrastructure as Code.

Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability practices.

Experience supporting and maintaining enterprise systems in production environments.

Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Demonstrated problem‑solving ability and a focus on continuous improvement.

May be required to work after hours

Desirable Skills* Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise

Familiarity with ETL tools and spatial data workflows.

Postgres and Oracle Database Experience

Experience in cloud environments and container‑native deployments.

Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and secure development lifecycle approaches.

Experience coaching, mentoring, or providing technical leadership.

Development experience in Atlassian Cloud
