Working onsite within a prestigious client data centre, this role is highly customer-focused and requires excellent attention to detail. As a Data Centre Engineer, you will deliver IMACD services ranging from small tasks such as patching and fault finding to larger activities including server installations, migrations, and full decommission/recommission work.

You will ensure all work is completed to the required standards, documented accurately, and delivered with exceptional customer service.

Data Centre Engineers work on shifts that contribute towards providing support services 24x7x365 and report to the local Service Delivery Manager.

What you’ll be doing as our Data Centre Engineer:

Installations

Complete installation checklists and patching schedules.

Rack and install new hardware, patch and test all cabling.

Ensure all installations meet standards and follow 2PV where required.

Decommissions

Complete decommission checklists and remove equipment safely.

Process all media according to security procedures and store removed equipment appropriately.

DCIM (Nlyte)

Update Nlyte for all Adds, Moves and Changes.

Complete DCIM audits accurately and escalate discrepancies to DCM/DCS.

Health Checks

Conduct daily floor walks and health checks, raising issues in the correct systems.

Ensure checks are completed to required standards every day.

Changes

Verify approvals and status before starting any change work.

Complete change tasks, document outcomes, and communicate results to the requestor.

Incidents

Respond to incidents and faults within SLAs.

Troubleshoot hardware/cabling issues and manage work orders in Remedy when authorised.

Access Requests

Manage visitor access, verify change windows, complete visitor logs, and maintain temporary access cards.

Ensure data halls and office spaces remain safe for all attendees.

Handovers

Provide clear handovers so the next shift is fully aware of ongoing tasks and outstanding activities.

Stock \& Inventory

Complete weekly stock checks and keep storage areas orderly.

Re-use available stock where appropriate and manage deliveries with third parties.

Switch Port Inventory

Update switch port records following changes, incidents, or cable moves.

Deliveries \& Parts Handling

Receive, verify, and store all deliveries; ensure records match delivery notes.

Media Disposal

Manage HDD/media destruction and asset retirement processes.

Ensure forms and tracking are completed accurately 100% of the time.

Rota \& Shift Management

Communicate any rota or shift changes promptly and ensure schedules are up to date.

General Duties

Keep office and storerooms organised.

Attend meetings on time, respond to client emails promptly, and support DCM/DCS/SDM as needed

Proactively identify improvements in daily tasks and processes.

What we’re looking for in our Data Centre Engineer:

Experience of working in high-risk environments and Data Centres

Sound Knowledge of Infrastructure Technologies \& Networking Concepts

Competent in MS Office and Helpdesk/Service Delivery Applications

A reliable individual

The ability to work under pressure.

A flexible approach to shift patterns

The ability to communicate clearly at all levels.

Strong organisational, interpersonal, and administrative skills
