Orthant exists to acquire, grow, and manage vertical market software companies for life. It is a portfolio of companies including CEI (Engineering Design Software), Finglow (Engineering Design Software), PRG (Finite Element Analysis Software), ConiferSoft (Forestry ERP Software), and Rezatec (Geospatial Software).

The Position:

We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to design, manage, and govern our cloud environment with a focus on security, reliability, and scalability. This role will involve hands-on management of Azure resources across networking, identity, storage, and platform services, while ensuring adherence to Microsoft’s best practices for governance and operations. The ideal candidate will also have experience with automation, monitoring, and cost management to ensure our cloud footprint is efficient and secure. Familiarity with alternative cloud providers such as AWS or GCP is a plus.

Devices and Operating systems include Microsoft Windows 11, Windows Server, Linux, and Android

Microsoft Azure – Cloud computing, storage, hosting, and development

Microsoft 365 – our core business platform. It is used for managing our internal computer systems and we leverage Mail, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Office Suite for various business needs.

Microsoft Entra – our primary cloud-hosted AD

Microsoft Intune – device configuration solution for laptops and mobile devices

CrowdStrike – cloud-based endpoint protection, threat intelligence, and incident response

Datto– our current RMM for maintaining and remotely troubleshooting and monitoring endpoints

Slack – our primary communication tool and integration hub

Atlassian (JIRA and Confluence) – our primary project management tools. JIRA service desk for reporting and managing issues.

Responsibilities:

Architecture \& Governance

o Implement Azure governance practices, including management groups, policies, and compliance standards.

o Apply principles of least privilege and enforce secure RBAC configurations across subscriptions and resources.

Networking \& Security

Configure and manage VNets, firewalls, private endpoints, and secure integrations with managed services while implementing network security best practices.

Platform \& Managed Services

Storage Accounts (configuration, lifecycle management, and security).

SQL Databases / Managed SQL Servers (configuration, monitoring, backups, access).

Function Apps and App Services (deployment, scaling, VNET integration).

Azure DevOps and TeamCity (governance of pipelines, repositories, and access where applicable).

Use tools such as ARM templates, Bicep, Terraform, or scripting (PowerShell, Azure CLI) to standardize deployments and reduce manual tasks.

Monitoring, Backup \& Operations

Configure monitoring and alerting using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.

Ensure backup/recovery solutions are in place and tested for critical workloads.

Work with security tools such as Microsoft Sentinel (SIEM/SOAR) and Purview (DLP/compliance).

Cost Optimization \& Reporting

Monitor Azure spend, analyze cost drivers, and implement optimization strategies across compute, storage, and managed services.

Provide reports and recommendations for long-term efficiency improvements.

Collaboration

Partner with application, DevOps, and security teams to ensure services are deployed in line with organizational policies.

Act as a subject matter resource for infrastructure configuration questions across the business.

Qualifications:

1-3 years of experience working with Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure.

Practical knowledge of networking, firewalls, storage accounts, and identity management in Azure.

Familiarity with managed services such as SQL, App Services, Function Apps, and monitoring tools.

Experience integrating with Microsoft Sentinel, Purview, or other SIEM/DLP solutions is a plus.

Exposure to Azure Front Door, Application Gateway, or CDN solutions.

Understanding of Azure DevOps tools and their role in infrastructure automation and governance.

Hands-on experience with automation via PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM templates, Bicep, or Terraform.

Knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, and cost optimization strategies in cloud environments.

Relevant Azure certifications preferred.

Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
