About the role
The Associate Software Engineer supports the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications and systems under guidance from senior engineers. This role contributes to the software lifecycle by assisting in understanding user requirements, developing functional specifications, and writing code that is efficient, maintainable, and secure. The Associate Software Engineer helps troubleshoot and resolve software defects, supports application deployments, and assists in monitoring system performance and reliability.
The role works closely with IT and business teams to deliver integrated solutions that are secure, scalable, and aligned with Parks Victoria's architecture frameworks and standards. The Associate Software Engineer participates in technical discussions, agile ceremonies, and seeks opportunities to learn and apply industry best practices to improve processes and solutions. Through this work, the Associate Software Engineer contributes to delivering software that meets organisational needs and supports stakeholder outcomes.
About the Team
The Associate Software Engineer sits within the IT Delivery team which consists of 4 members. We are keen to learn, improve and are passionate about what we do. The environment is supportive and facilitates growth opportunities in all aspects of software engineering from writing code to gathering requirements to solving complex technical issues. We support multiple production environments used by thousands of people every month.
We're looking for someone with:
An attitude of continuous self-improvement and growth in the information technology sector
Tertiary qualifications or current enrolment in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience
Familiarity with Agile delivery practices, version control, and testing frameworks
Basic knowledge of software engineering principles, development methodologies, and technology stacks
Excellent communication skills
Some experience or academic training in software development or related field
