We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary offices. Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.
About the role:
Are you a highly skilled Java developer who can not only code, but maintain and operate applications while partnering with multiple lines of business?
This is a hands-on role focused primarily on back-end development, with occasional front-end work for internal tools. You’ll collaborate with internal teams and third-party vendors to design and implement architectural solutions that span multiple platforms and services. If you’re curious, adaptable, and excited about solving integration challenges, this role is for you.
About the day-to-day:
Develop and maintain back-end services using Java and Spring Boot that meets business and technical requirements.
Lead the implementation of new features and resolution of complex bugs
Design and implement API integrations across multiple systems and vendors.
Build and manage CI/CD pipelines, ensuring smooth deployments.
Work with technologies such as Docker, AWS, Azure, Snowflake, and Azure Data Factory.
Ensure observability and operational readiness through logging, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Collaborate with tech leads and stakeholders to define architecture and prepare for upcoming projects.
Collaborate closely with developers, QA engineers, and product owners in Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
Mentor junior developers and foster a culture of continuous learning.
Take ownership of code from development through production support.
About the qualifications:
7+ years of software engineering experience, with strong back-end expertise.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Experience with Java (JDK 17.x/21.x), Python is a plus
Experience working with Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring Web, Spring Data, Spring Integration, etc.)
Amazon AWS (EKS, API Gateway, WAF, ALB, NLB, VPC, SNS, SQS, RDS, etc.)
Experience with modern development tools and practices, such as CI/CD, containerization, infrastructure as code, and git-ops processes.
Experience with API design, integration, and CI/CD pipelines.
Strong understanding of logging, monitoring, and production issue resolution.
Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor team members.
Experience with Agile methodologies and full software development lifecycle.
Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to navigate complex technical challenges.
Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies beyond your core stack.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Exposure to fraud monitoring, financial services, or multi-industry experience considered an asset.

About the work environment:

Compensation:
Peoples Group is pleased to offer employees a competitive annual salary plus a discretionary profit share opportunity. Salary for this position will vary between $130,000 and $140,000 per year depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities and experience that the chosen candidate possesses.
