Job Description

*Want to deliver tech with purpose, with people who care?*

*Join us in our mission to create solutions that help keep children safe online.*

*Who we are?*

Headquartered in Perth, Australia, with offices globally, Qoria is an ASX listed global leader in child digital safety technology and services. We are a purpose-driven business, operating under the ‘Linewize’ brand in North America and Asia Pacific, the ‘Smoothwall’ brand in the UK, and the ‘Qoria’ brand in EMEA and Sri Lanka. Our solutions are utilised by schools, school districts, and parental communities to protect children from seeing harmful content online, identify children at risk based on their digital behaviours and ensure teachers maintain focus and safe learning in the digital classroom. 30.000 schools and 7 million parents depend on our solutions to keep 25 million children safe in 180 countries around the world

*What’s the opportunity?*

A Graduate Software Engineer owns the day-to-day trade off between quality, time-to-build and cost-to-own. They work in close conjunction with an Engineering Manager and other engineers, together ensuring that their changes are estimated accurately, delivered to specification, and have high quality and low cost of ownership. The question they must continually ask themselves is “Am I making the right engineering trade-offs for this component?”

This is a rare graduate opportunity with the Australian arm of our global platform group, delivering APIs and services that provide critical student, teacher and related school data, to all Qoria products. Here you will gain experience at a global SaaS scaleup, helping build and run high performance, low cost, highly available and scalable software services, which keep 25 million children safe online.

As a modern software company, we go fast at Qoria - shipping multiple improvements to production every day. You will also get to work on interesting scaling challenges - with some of our APIs at Qoria serving over 2 billion requests per day and an ever growing user base. As a graduate you will get to learn from some of the best engineers in Perth.

*What are we looking for?*

Essential Skills

Recent graduate of Computer Science / Software Engineering (or similar) degree

Consistently very strong academic performance

A passion for tinkering with technology, solving puzzles and building things

A natural collaborator who works well in a team who communicates regularly

An urge to grow, develop your craft and learn new languages \& technologies as well as how to build modern scalable software systems

A strong sense of ownership and accountability

*What's our tech stack?*

This list hopefully gives you a flavour for the sort of team we are. If you have some exposure to or awareness of a few of these as well that is a bonus

Languages - Go, TypeScript

Frontend frameworks - React/Vite

API technologies - GraphQL, REST, tRPC/gRPC, protobuf

Cloud services - GCP

Databases - CockroachDB, PostgreSQL

Performance - Our APIs get millions (or even billions) of requests per a day, and need to operate 24/7/365 so our software performance matters for scalability, resiliency and cost.

Container / execution orchestration platforms - Docker, Kubernetes (GKE) and Temporal

We follow the DevOps principle “You Build It, You Run It” - You will help operate your services in production

Observability tools - Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus
