Rally is a fast-growing national media startup delivering live coverage of business, finance, markets, and technology news. We produce daily live broadcasts for a business-focused audience following the economy, markets, and global events in real time.
We’re seeking a mid-weight Live Streaming Engineer to own and operate our live streaming infrastructure and workflows. This is a hands-on, in-person role focused entirely on the technical execution, reliability, and optimization of live news broadcasts in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not an Audio/Visual or Production role. You MUST have detailed experience of live streaming or broadcast engineering.
What You’ll Do
Operate and manage daily live news streams from studio to platform delivery
Configure, monitor, and maintain live streaming workflows, including encoders, switchers, and streaming software
Ensure high-quality, stable streams on YouTube Live and X Live
Manage video and audio signal flow, including ingest, routing, switching, and output
Monitor stream health in real time (bitrate, latency, dropped frames, audio sync)
Troubleshoot technical issues quickly during live broadcasts to prevent downtime
Work closely with producers and presenters to execute live shows smoothly
Prepare systems ahead of broadcasts and maintain equipment readiness
Document workflows and help improve streaming reliability and efficiency
Requirements
Proven experience operating live streams in a professional studio or broadcast environment
2–5 years of experience in live streaming or broadcast engineering
Strong understanding of end-to-end live streaming workflows
Comfortable working under pressure in a live news environment
Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Interest in business, finance, markets, technology, and current affairs
Proficient with Google Workspace and basic scheduling/production tools
Based in Chicago or willing to relocate and available to start earlier than February 1st
Technical Skills
Live Streaming Platforms: YouTube Live, X Live (Media Studio / Live Producer)
Streaming Software \& Encoders: OBS Studio and Restream, or Wirecast, Streamlabs, TriCaster, or similar
Video Signal \& Control Systems: Camera feeds, switching, routing, monitoring, and output control
Basic Audio Engineering: Microphone setup, live mixing, monitoring, and sync
Output \& Delivery Management: Resolution, aspect ratio, bitrate, frame rate, and delivery settings
Network \& Connectivity: Diagnosing stream stability, bandwidth issues, latency, and packet loss
Hardware Knowledge: Capture cards, hardware encoders, switchers, audio interfaces, lighting systems
Live Troubleshooting: Rapid diagnosis and problem-solving during live broadcasts
Soft / Professional Skills
Attention to detail and broadcast accuracy
Clear communication with producers and on-air talent
Calm and effective under live broadcast pressure
Strong organizational and multitasking skills
Preferred (Nice to Have)
Experience supporting live news or financial programming
Familiarity with redundancy, failover, or backup streaming setups
Ability to add basic graphics, titles, or lower thirds during live broadcasts
Basic understanding of financial markets or business news
Experienced in archiving footage using servers
