ABOUT THE ROLE Our client seeks to hire a Senior Data Engineer to serve as the principal technical authority for our enterprise data platforms. In this Christchurch-based role, you will provide the strategic guidance that informs our long-term architecture and investment decisions, ensuring their data systems are scalable, secure, and future-proof. You will work at the intersection of technical execution and high-level strategy, translating complex concepts for senior leadership while leading proof-of-concept initiatives. This is a pivotal opportunity to drive innovation, oversee major migrations to Snowflake, and mentor a growing team of data professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Lead development of enterprise data initiatives and provide strategic architectural recommendations.
Design and maintain scalable, secure data solutions across multiple cloud platforms.
Drive system optimisation, automation, and innovation through proof-of-concept initiatives.
Translate complex technical concepts into actionable advice for non-technical senior stakeholders.
Provide mentorship to junior team members and champion data engineering best practices.
Oversee data governance and compliance frameworks to ensure high-quality, reliable data.
SKILLS \& EXPERIENCE
More than 6 years of experience delivering complex, Enterprise-level Data Solutions.
Expertise in SQL, ETL processes, and building large-scale data pipelines.
Strong experience with Snowflake and cloud-based data architecture principles.
Proven ability to provide guidance and strategic advice to management.
Background in schema design, dimensional modelling, and system migration projects.
Relevant certifications in Snowflake, AWS, Azure, or GCP are highly desirable.
