About The Role RELYzIT Talent is seeking a Senior Java Developer (Freelance) to join our client’s mission-critical team in Brussels for a 22-month engagement. You’ll be at the heart of digital transformation for government contract management, working on complex, high-impact web applications that underpin the core business of public mobility and infrastructure. This is a freelance opportunity for elite builders who thrive on challenge, complexity, and real-world impact.

Your expertise will ensure these systems remain robust, adaptable, and compliant — especially when rapid legislative changes demand swift, high-quality delivery. Key Responsibilities

Lead the development and enhancement of the eDelta web application (over 500 screens), as well as e-Contracting and Delay Interest platforms.

Design, code, test, and debug complex Java-based solutions, ensuring reliability and scalability.

Integrate with external systems via web services and a central service bus, ensuring seamless data exchange with internal and external stakeholders.

Write and maintain comprehensive unit tests for all developed functionalities.

Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of senior developers, analysts, and testers.

Coach and mentor fellow developers, fostering a high-performance, builder-driven culture.

Take a leading role in Agile development processes, driving continuous improvement and delivery excellence.

Technical Skills

Minimum 5 years of demonstrable experience in Java/J2EE application development (Senior level).

Proven expertise with web services integration and development.

Hands-on experience with the Wicket framework.

Strong background in programming languages and environments such as Java/J2EE, with relevant certifications or equivalent experience.

Experience with PostgreSQL databases.

Solid understanding of Agile methodologies, with the ability to take a leadership role.

Demonstrable knowledge of government contract processes is highly valued.

Language Proficiency

Fluency in Dutch at European CEFR level C2 is required.
