Key job requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science/Information Technology and relevant industry experience OR relevant industry experience.
Regular external training on specific frameworks/competencies matching function technologies.
DBT and Databricks Data Engineer certified or demonstrable experience.
ITIL Foundations.
Participation in industry user groups (desirable).
Experience
At least 5 years appropriate industry experience in large Insurance organisation Data Warehouse, Business Intelligence environment or Data applications.
Demonstrable experience in writing as well as migrating SQL based applications between heterogeneous databases, SQL conversion, end to end testing and reconciliation.
Exceptionally strong SQL background, with capability to write SQL with a performance mindset, troubleshoot performance, mentor and train other staff.
Proven capability to develop Data Applications based on SQL.
Proven capability to utilise tools and develop data acquisition \& data movement of files and/or between heterogeneous databases and systems.
Proficient in building and optimising data models using DBT core or cloud, ensuring high performance and scalability.
Deep understanding of databases, data storage and data movement tools including how optimise development \& approaches aligning to best practices:

Demonstrable ability to perform analysis, data mapping validation as well as data model implementation. Comfortable working within conceptual, logical, and physical data models following either Datavault2.0, Inmon or Kimball patterns.

Demonstrable knowledge of an insurance business and its data solutions strongly desired.

Proven diagnostic and troubleshooting skills and capable of working to either strategic and/or tactical approaches.
Excellent knowledge/experience in the application of Agile and Lean approaches.

Strong stakeholder management, planning, organisation, decision making and time management skills.
