Respondent is building the infrastructure that powers participant recruiting for the research industry. Our mission is simple but ambitious: to make it effortless for researchers to find high-quality participants - whether they’re testing a product, exploring a market, or validating an idea.

From our founder’s first recruits on a NYC subway to a global panel of 3 million participants across 150+ countries, we now support research for companies like Microsoft, Dropbox, and P\&G. Our panel is one of the most diverse and responsive in the industry.

As the research world shifts rapidly, demand for high-quality participants is growing fast. Respondent is well-positioned to meet that demand, helping companies run better, faster research at scale.

We’re a lean global team of \~30 people across Sydney, Manila, and the U.S. We’ve recently become profitable and we are ramping up to accelerate growth. We have already made the leap from 0 to 1 - this is a rare chance to help us take it from 1 to 10!

💼 The role:

You’ll be joining our Sydney team as a Full Stack Engineer. This is an in-office role where you’ll be a core part of a lean, fast-moving engineering team - so we’re looking for someone who’s genuinely excited about collaborating in person.

Most of your work will focus on front-end initiatives that shape how users experience Respondent - you’ll take real ownership of projects that move the product experience forward, while also gaining exposure to our back-end systems.

This role is perfect for an engineer who’s passionate about building great user experiences, moving fast, and seeing their work make a real impact.

📌 What You'll Do:

Product Engineering: Work with Product, Design and other Engineers to build and improve software that delivers real value to our customers

Build our new frond-end: Design and develop core parts of our new React front-end, and contribute to both technical and product decisions that shape how users experience Respondent.

Raise the quality bar: Implement and maintain end-to-end front-end tests using Playwright to ensure a smooth, reliable experience for our users.

Work at the edge of AI: We’re actively using AI in our dev workflows and our product and you’ll help us push that even further.

Software Process Optimisation: Continuously improve our development processes and tools to help the team move faster and ship high-quality code across the stack.

Full stack expertise: You’re comfortable working across both front-end and back-end. Our stack includes TypeScript, Node.js, React, AWS and MongoDB - but we care more about your ability to learn and ship than a perfect tech match.

Builder’s mindset: You’ve delivered real products or features - whether at work, in a side project, or something you put out there yourself. You care about building products that customers love, not just writing code.

Adaptability: You are comfortable in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment, and can figure things out when the path isn’t fully defined.

Quick learner: You have a growth mindset and can quickly learn new languages, tools and frameworks.

Collaboration and communication: You can work cross-functionally with Design, Product and other Engineers, and you’re comfortable giving and receiving candid feedback to help the team build the best solution.
