The AI Center of Excellence ( CoE ) is the strategic enabler within the technology organization, helping business domains and technology delivery teams shape and mature their AI ideas into secure, scalable, and production-ready solutions. Our mission is to accelerate AI adoption across Robeco by providing expertise , frameworks, and governance that empower teams to innovate responsibly and transition smoothly from concept to enterprise deployment.

In addition to AI, the new ‘AI CoE \& Technology Innovation’ department will monitor emerging technologies and, together with delivery teams and Enterprise Architecture, assess their applicability for Robeco.

Position \& Requirements

We’re looking for a skilled AI and Data Engineer, who is excited to play a foundational role in building a new, high-impact team from the ground up. Within this team, you will drive AI adoption within our business. You will design, develop, and deploy AI solutions which optimize operations, unlock new insights for our clients, and drive marketing impact.

As an AI and Data Engineer, you will report to the Head of AI \& Technology Innovation.

Core Responsibilities

As an AI Engineer within the Robeco AI Center of Excellence your key responsibilities would be to:

Collaborate cross-functionally with business and technology teams to translate ideas into actionable solutions;

Collect, clean, and analyze structured and unstructured data;

Design and implement rapid, functional prototypes that follow best practices to validate AI concepts and demonstrate feasibility;

Build predictive and generative models using modern ML and AI frameworks;

Collaborate with business stakeholders to test strategic AI use cases/ models align with organizational goals;

Work closely with data scientists and architects to ensure prototypes can transition smoothly into scalable solutions once validated;

Conduct experiments and evaluate model performance using appropriate metrics and ensuring reproducibility;

Stay current with the latest AI/ML research and technologies, integrating innovative approaches into solutions;

Act as a trusted advisor and sparring partner for our AI champions within business teams, fostering adoption and knowledge sharing;

Build strong relationships with business and technology delivery teams to ensure the AI Center of Excellence is deeply embedded within core business processes, fostering trust and alignment; and

Contribute to shaping a newly established team by promoting collaboration, defining best practices, and helping create a culture of innovation and adaptability.

What We’re Looking For

Must have qualifications include:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent experience);

We are hiring for a range of experience levels but expected a minimum of 2 years' experience in an engineering or similar role.

Strong programming skills in Python and SQL as well as familiarity with best coding practices;

Experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation;

Experience with cloud platforms (preferably Azure and Snowflake) and version control systems (Git);

Understanding of AI/ML capabilities in business applications (e.g. Cortex on Snowflake, Copilot in Microsoft CRM);

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail; and

Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred qualifications include:

Master's or PhD in Computer Science, AI/ML, or related field;

Experience with LLMs and AI;

Experience with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn);

Experience with containerization (Kubernetes) and API development;

Contributions to open-source AI/ML projects or published research or papers in AI/ML conferences or journals;

Understanding data privacy, security and AI regulations;

Understanding of AI use cases in Sales, Marketing and Service processes; and

Understanding of AI use cases in Financial services.

Other considerations

The position is for a minimum of 32 hours per week.

This is a hybrid role, requiring the candidate to work in office (Rotterdam based) for 60% of the time.
