Title: Automation Software Technician/Engineer
Shift: 1st Shift \| Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Salary: $75,000 - $90,000 per year; dependent on experience
Automation Software Technician/Engineer Role:
This position exists to design and deploy multi-axis machine control software that drives high-precision automated systems. Our client relies on this role to bridge the gap between software logic and physical machinery, ensuring seamless commissioning, motion synchronization, and safety compliance.
Automation Software Technician/Engineer Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain high-performance motion code to coordinate multi-axis systems for servos, steppers, and VFDs
Synchronize peripheral sensors and actuators with dynamic motion profiles through I/O interfacing
Perform PID loop tuning and vibration filtering to optimize machine stability
Resolve mechanical, electrical, and software issues during the development and deployment phases
Execute on-site installation and machine startup at client facilities to ensure software stability
Implement machine safety protocols including E-stops, light curtains, and safety-rated logic
Maintain clean, well-commented code and structured project documentation for all automation sequences
Integrate industrial networking protocols to facilitate communication between system components
Partner with mechanical engineers and project managers to meet design specifications and deadlines
Troubleshoot physical hardware-software interfaces directly on the production floor
Automation Software Technician/Engineer Reporting Relationships:
The candidate will report to the Engineering Manager and will not have any direct reports.
About You:
Possess 3 to 5 years of experience in an automation environment specifically in motion control or robotics
Hold a degree or technical certification in Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
Demonstrate expertise in CODESYS (IEC 61131-3) and proprietary motion programming environments
Exhibit proficiency with motion controllers and drives from manufacturers like Trio, Yaskawa, or Kollmorgen
Read and interpret complex electrical schematics and mechanical drawings with high accuracy
Apply a strong understanding of machine safety standards and safety-rated logic implementation
Show familiarity with .NET programming and industrial vision system integration
Understand pneumatic systems including valves and cylinders as they relate to machine control
Manage projects independently from initial concept through final commissioning
Flourish in a team-based environment that requires constant collaboration across departments
