Join the SAP Business Data Cloud, a team contributing to one of SAP's most strategic products. We are a key part of the organization, driving end-to-end features and services in the Business Data Cloud. Our team’s mission is to lead cutting-edge projects focused on optimizing our data product runtime architecture, driving innovation and strategic technical decisions that impact the entire platform.
What You'll Do
As a Development Manager, you will lead a skilled and motivated agile team of developers focused on the core of our data processing engine:
Lead, coach, and mentor a team of skilled engineers in an open, trust-based environment, supporting their career progression and empowering them to succeed.
Shape the team’s culture around agility, ownership, deep technical expertise, and innovation.
Guide the team in analyzing and refining Spark workloads to enhance performance and resource efficiency, including tuning, re-engineering data pipelines, and ensuring optimal execution strategies.
Drive the technical vision for implementing robust monitoring solutions to detect, diagnose, and resolve complex runtime issues related to resource allocation, execution errors, or data inconsistencies.
Collaborate across the organization with product managers, architects, and other global teams to design and build a framework that allows Business Data Cloud workloads to scale effortlessly and elastically.
Lead AI-automation initiatives within the team to improve workload scalability and efficiency.
Act as a bridge between Product Managers and your team, analyzing new requirements and organizing the delivery of technical solutions that meet SAP's high standards for quality, security, performance, and resilience.
Champion best practices by producing documentation on Spark optimization and fostering knowledge sharing to enhance the broader team’s expertise.
What You Bring
Leadership \& Vision: Proven leadership experience in technical roles, with a passion for scalable, enterprise-grade software architecture and a strategic vision to foresee industry advancements.
Team \& Culture: A passion for motivating, coaching, and developing talent. You are dedicated to fostering a collaborative, innovative spirit with a high degree of accountability and transparency.
Collaboration \& Communication: Excellent communication, mentorship, and international collaboration skills in English. You demonstrate strong empathy for customers and internal stakeholders to deliver satisfying solutions.
Technical Expertise:

Familiarity with principles of distributed computing (concurrency, fault tolerance, network latency).

Knowledge of Apache Spark architecture, including its core components and execution model.

Expertise in performance profiling and tuning Spark applications, including resource allocation, parallelism, and shuffling.

Debugging skills to identify and resolve complex runtime issues in a distributed environment.

Experience with monitoring tools such as Spark's web UI, Ganglia, Grafana, or Prometheus.

Understanding of AI/ML trends and their application in distributed data query execution.
Education \& Experience:

Bachelor's or Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.

Experience with Data Warehouse or Analytics projects is a strong advantage.
