Senior Software Engineer - Database and Drivers Fully Remote -€100 000 plus equity
You love (or would love) working in the open. You can ship drivers, adapters, and integrations that thousands of developers rely on, and you do it on public GitHub repositories where your work speaks for itself.
This is a role for someone who thrives at the intersection of databases, open-source communities, and polyglot engineering.
You'll work directly with founding engineers to build and maintain the ecosystem that connects an established open source distributed SQL database to the tools and frameworks that power the heavy hitters in real-time analytics: SQLAlchemy, pandas, Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Grafana, Superset, and more.
This pre-Series B, VC-backed company is on a solid exit trajectory; and your work on ecosystem integrations will be a key differentiator in it getting there faster.
What Will You Build?
You'll be the bridge between their open source database and the broader open-source world, building drivers, adapters, and integrations that make adoption seamless.
You'll be responsible for:
Building and maintaining database drivers in multiple languages (JDBC, Python, and more)
Creating integrations with visualization tools like Grafana, Tableau, and Superset
Developing adapters for data streaming platforms like Apache Kafka and Apache Flink
Improving PostgreSQL wire protocol compatibility to ease migrations
Writing reference architectures and documentation that developers actually want to read
Collaborating directly with open-source communities and technical partners
Supporting internal tools like the crash CLI and Admin UI
You'll own the entire lifecycle: from writing code to shipping packages, writing docs, and engaging with the community.

What We're Looking For
Core Technical Skills:
Strong proficiency in Python and Java (non-negotiable)
Experience with at least one additional language: Rust, C++, Golang, Swift, or Zig
Deep understanding of HTTP, PostgreSQL wire protocol, Python DB API, and JDBC
Test-driven development and CI/CD experience
SQL and relational database expertise
Self-directed and hands-on—you take ownership from code to docs to shipping
Nice-to-Have:
Open-source contributions (especially to SQLAlchemy, pandas, Airflow, Kafka, Flink, or Grafana)
Experience with message bus systems (AMQP, Kafka, MQTT, ZeroMQ)
DevOps and containerization experience (Docker, Kubernetes)
