About The Role

As a Software Engineer, you’ll join the team responsible for Seequent Central, a cloud‑based collaboration and data management platform that supports versioned geoscience workflows, integrates directly with desktop applications, and provides web‑based access and visualisation.

You’ll work on a large mature platform used by thousands of customers worldwide. The team balances operational stability with continuous engineering improvements, including migrating components to newer technology stacks and evolving system architecture over time.

This role is back‑end focused, working primarily with Python and FastAPI. You’ll help maintain and evolve the platform while contributing to ongoing technology modernisation, cloud adoption, and new feature development.

You’ll be part of a collaborative, supportive team of 8, where learning, technical growth, and thoughtful engineering are strongly encouraged.

This is a technically rich environment with a strong emphasis on design and problem‑solving, favouring considered, high‑quality change over rapid daily releases.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

Design, develop, and maintain back‑end services, primarily using Python and FastAPI.

Work on a large, complex system that supports multiple services and high‑value customers.

Contribute to the modernization of existing systems, including migration to newer technologies and architectures.

Collaborate with senior engineers, application specialists, and testers to deliver reliable, high‑quality solutions.

Participate in technical design discussions and problem‑solving activities.

Help improve system performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Support the ongoing evolution of the platform while ensuring business continuity.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent.

3+ years working in relevant Software Engineering roles.

Strong knowledge of Python; experience with FastAPI is an additional plus.

Familiarity with CI/CD Pipelines and DevOps practices.

Desirable but not mandatory experience with React, Azure, GCP and Terraform.

Additional Information

Office-based working environment, work from our Christchurch office three or more days per week.
