Job Description

Our client is a manufacturer of commercial and residential roofing products in North America. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate who has proven Automation Engineer experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or industrial military environment.

Position:

The Automation Engineer will lead targeted automation initiatives aimed at increasing production reliability, reducing labor requirements, and modernizing control systems across Packaging End, Splicer/Coater, and Midline operations. This role directly supports cost reduction, throughput improvement, and data driven process optimization. Our client operates on a 24/5 schedule.

Responsibilities and Attributes:

Develop, program, and commission PLC and HMI-based control systems to support production improvements.

Lead automation upgrades focused on improved reliability, cycle time reduction, and ease of operation.

Manage end‑to‑end automation projects and collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to define project requirements and integrate automation solutions seamlessly.

Use historical production data to diagnose bottlenecks, analyze performance trends, and recommend optimizations.

Integrate vision systems, sensors, and measurement technologies to improve product quality verification and traceability.

Develop and refine alarming logic to reduce nuisance alarms and improve operator awareness and response.

Demonstrates a strong desire to understand process interactions and root causes, not just symptoms.

Requirements:

B.A./B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.

PLC programming for new or improved processes and HMI interface design and implementation required (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent).

Automation project execution.

Installation and integration of measurement and sensor systems such as Keyence.

Development and tuning of alarming strategies.

Experience with Ignition or other historian/data-collection platforms.

Database design and integration.

Experience leading and executing automation projects including historical data analysis for production optimization.

Coursework or practical exposure to AI-assisted programming tools is strongly preferred

Pay: $90,196.29 - $110,000.00 per year
