Role Overview
We are hiring a Senior Python Developer to become our first dedicated Python hire and play a foundational role in evolving our backend architecture. This person will help transition core systems from PHP to Python while working closely with an existing engineering team that is primarily PHP-based.
Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain backend services using Python
Lead and support the migration of systems from PHP to Python
Design and maintain clean, scalable APIs
Collaborate closely with existing developers and provide technical guidance
Help establish Python best practices and development standards
Troubleshoot, optimize, and improve system performance
Document technical decisions and workflows
Hard Skills \& Technical Requirements
4+ years of professional Python backend development experience
Experience with frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI
Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and backend architecture
Experience working with databases and Git-based workflows
Soft Skills \& Collaboration
Comfortable acting as the first Python subject-matter expert on the team
Clear communicator who can support and mentor other developers
Self-directed and comfortable taking ownership
Able to work collaboratively with overlapping U.S. Eastern Time hours
Preferred Experience
Prior experience migrating or refactoring legacy systems (PHP to Python preferred)
Exposure to cloud environments and deployment workflows
