Job Description:
Reporting to the Director, Data \& Analytics (Insurance Solutions), the Business Intelligence Specialist will join a team of data scientists, data engineers, and analysts responsible for delivering data and analytical tools to support Sun Life’s individual insurance business in Canada.
The successful candidate will have a front row seat in shaping Sun Life Canada’s business intelligence capabilities, leading various analytics initiatives, and delivering innovative solutions to colleagues across product management, insurance distribution, actuarial, and innovation.
Insurance Solutions is one of the largest business units within Sun Life Canada, accounting for approximately 15% of worldwide earnings. We manufacture and distribute leading-edge life and health insurance products to over two million individual customers.
What will you do?
Design and Visualization
Design and facilitate workshops to understand user needs, set business requirements, and test BI dashboard designs with users
Translate user needs into compelling BI dashboard designs utilizing best practices in infographic design and aligned with Sun Life design language
Illustrate alternative concepts by mocking up sketches or wireframes with consistent and professional layout and visual; rapidly iterate and develop final versions
Data, Technology, and Tools
Develop metrics and KPIs to measure the performance of analytical and data products in the overall portfolio.
Responsible for improving the quality and management of data assets across distribution, finance, actuarial, product domains
Partner with different partners in the team, business, and IT to evolve data foundation and technology stack for Insurance Solutions
Assist in the migration of all of BI and Insights data foundation to the Enterprise Data Lake
Project and Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong working relationships with the Distribution, Pricing, Operations and IT partners to ensure delivery of initiatives within the area.
Design and deliver end-user training and training materials; provide technical support as necessary
Perform voice of the customer (VOC) feedback analysis to gain insights, take actions and improve.
What do you need to succeed?
4+ years of experience in data analytics with a focus on business intelligence
3+ years of experience and strong understanding of best practices in data visualization and dashboard design
4+ years of experience in Data Visualization tools, at least 2 years working with Tableau
2+ years of experience with data querying languages (SQL)and techniques, analysis tools, data sources and structures
Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
Experience in insurance and financial service industry is an asset, but not required
Knowledge in one or more programming languages (Python/R)
Education background in math/UI design/statistics/financial engineering/data analytics

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
