Senior Construction & Engineering Underwriter

We’re looking for a Senior Construction \& Engineering Underwriter to join our Corporate \& Specialty team, reporting directly to our Portfolio Manager. In this role, you’ll take ownership of underwriting complex construction and engineering risks, contribute to portfolio strategy, and build strong broker and intermediary relationships. You’ll play a key role in delivering profitable growth, supporting underwriting capability across the team, and continuously improving how we work.

What you’ll do

Underwrite new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments across Construction \& Engineering products within your DUA

Apply product and pricing strategies to deliver strong Insurance Trading Results

Review and manage complex risks, including exposures, claims trends and risk mitigation

Build strong broker and intermediary relationships, negotiating terms and outcomes

Monitor market, competitor and regulatory trends to identify risks and opportunities

Contribute to underwriting governance, quality assurance and peer reviews

Identify and implement opportunities to simplify processes and improve efficiency

What you’ll bring

5+ years’ experience underwriting Construction \& Engineering risks

Strong technical underwriting skills with solid knowledge of risk appetite, DUA and guidelines

Commercial mindset with proven broker negotiation and relationship-building capability

Understanding of construction and engineering risks, reinsurance and claims drivers

Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and make sound decisions under pressure

Confidence communicating with brokers, stakeholders and customers

Awareness of market and regulatory developments

Relevant tertiary qualification (desirable)

A collaborative, resilient approach and continuous improvement mindset
