The Role \& Key Responsibilities
From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.
It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.
It is a very exciting time in regards to the technological advancements, exploitation and visualisation of data. In this role you will be at the forefront of advancing analytical techniques in predicitve data modelling, data science and machine learning, to provide insights from complex data holdings to enable data informed decision making at all levels and departments of the organisation. You will lead a small team of specilaists and work alongside professionals in data engineering, pipelines, flows and visualisation. You will have a close working relationship with force leads in Performance and Research which are vital aspects of the department.
Skills \& Experience
A degree in statistics, mathematics or a statistically-related discipline
Demonstrate work experience as a BI Developer or Data Scientist
Strong data modelling background with experience working with multiple data sources both cloud and on-premise
Industry experience in delivering Power BI/ Microsoft Analytics solutions, with a good grounding in all associated areas including; development , Enterprise Architecture, Governance, Rollout and Adoption
Knowledge or experience ofData Factory, Data Lake, Azure SQL database, Azure SQL Data warehouse, Azure Analysis Services. Power BI embedded
Detailed understanding or experience of how to develop cloud-based data solutions and architecture
Proficiency in data science language such as Python and R, including the use of modern development environments like Fabir notebooks.
Detailed understanding of various data technologies in Azure/ Fabric
Strong SQL skills for querying and creation of views/tables, functions and stored procedures
Experience in gathering BI requirements and understand the business on different levels
Experience in building dashboards, reports and cubes using SQL, MDX, DAX, Power BI or other visualisation tools
Experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders
Understanding dimensional modelling ideally for Financial services and Public Sector
Good communications, interpersonal and presentation skills in order to influence internal stakeholders.
Ability to self-manage and work in a dynamic environment.
Experience of achieving results as a consequence of engaging with other business areas.
Willingness to embrace new ways of working and influence other parts of the business to adopt.
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships across Surrey business areas, Regional and National colleagues, representing Surrey Police at executive level meetings.
Ability to manage conflicting priorities, negotiate solutions and resolve problems with colleagues and customers.
A flexible and responsive approach to meeting work demands.
Positive about change, adapts rapidly to changing circumstances and encourages flexibility in others.
