Senior Testing Data Engineer - Remote in Ireland
Ireland \| Remote First in Ireland \| Permanent
€60,000 - €70,000 DOE
We’re looking for a Senior QA Automation Engineer to join a growing data engineering team. This is a key role for someone with hands-on QA experience in big data environments, who can bring structure, automation, and expertise to a team that’s evolving its approach to testing.
Previously, QA responsibilities were shared across the team, but now they need someone to take ownership of testing, prioritise it, and introduce automated approaches across pipelines, dashboards, and reporting systems, giving you an opportunity to put your stamp on a greenfield position.
You’ll be joining a team that’s always working on new data ingestion, building a central repository and bringing together multiple systems that have historically grown in silos. The work is highly bespoke—each data pipeline presents unique challenges—and the team is starting to explore machine learning and Generative AI initiatives, allowing you to work in a modern data environment and develop your technical skillset.
This is a remote first position with a requirement to attend the office 1-2 days per month.
The Role:
Take ownership of testing across big data pipelines, ensuring data integrity and system reliability.
Automate testing for large-scale datasets, including load, capacity, and performance testing—systems handle thousands of requests per minute at peak times.
Work across Python, PySpark, Pytest in Databricks notebooks—or similar environments like Spark or AWS Glue. Scripting in Python, JS, or VB is fine.
Develop automated testing solutions for Power BI dashboards and reports, using tools like Power Apps, Playwright, or other frameworks.
Ensure end-to-end validation of data, including quality checks, correctness, and system performance under load.
Collaborate with the team to improve processes, introduce best practice, and bring transparency and ownership to QA.
Required
2+ years hands-on QA experience in big data environments.
Strong knowledge of data testing, load testing, and performance validation.
Experience with Python scripting, ideally with Pytest or PySpark, and familiarity with Databricks or Spark-based workflows or other scripting languages.
Experience testing large-scale data pipelines and generating realistic test data.
Knowledge of BI Reporting tools, with experience creating automated tests for dashboards and reports.
Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment, taking ownership while taking ownership over testing activities in Data
Experience with cloud-based tools like AWS Glue or equivalent is a plus.
Candidates must currently be located in Ireland
Salary: €60,000 - €70,000 DOE
Benefits: Bonus, Healthcare, Pension and more
