Position Overview:

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Engineering Intern supports the Town of Canmore (“Town”) Engineering team and will gain experience during this 16-month practicum in the following areas: project management, records management, GIS and mapping updates, field surveys, data collection, analysis and reporting, and construction and development completion inspections.

Our engineering team follows the ‘work hard, play harder’ ethic, striving for a balance of work and taking advantage of the wide variety of year-round adventure opportunities in our spectacular setting.

Core Accountabilities:

Project Coordinator

Assist with budget development.

Assist with consultant and contractor selection.

Assist with contract and construction management.

Project completion and reporting.

Support in procurement.

Data collection, Analysis and Reporting

Collect groundwater level readings from Town piezometers and enter data into existing spreadsheets and charts.

Collect traffic counter data and enter data into existing spreadsheets and charts.

Conduct spot traffic counts, data collection, and analysis as directed.

Compilation of weather data for seasonal monitoring.

GIS and Mapping Updates:

Assist with GPS and other data collection.

Assist with data entry in GIS, MIMS, or other databases.

Assist with updating base maps.

Assist with preparing thematic maps and sketches.

Records Management:

Assist with document filing and tracking and maintaining records management systems.

Correlate drawings, re-name and re-label drawings, and update drawing management system.

Update Standard Operating Procedures as directed.

Collect information and assemble engineering policy and procedure reference manuals.

Track and update capital project implementation plans, schedules, and budgets.

Who Can Apply? We are looking for a friendly, confident and approachable candidate who is up for any adventure. You are energetic, motivated, and excited about pursuing a career in civil or municipal engineering and are motivated by the idea of impacting communities and helping people through the work you do each day. When it comes to your work and studies, you are highly detail oriented, organized, and analytical. Through previous experience, you can demonstrate the ability to work well independently and in a collaborative team environment. In addition, the successful candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:

Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution with a formal engineering co-op or internship program of minimum 12 – 16 months (16-month preference).

Currently completing 2nd, 3rd or 4th year in Civil Engineering, or Environmental Engineering degree program (preferably Civil Engineering)

Open to Mechanical Engineering degree program

Excellent computer skills: proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook

Familiarity with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, GPS \& GIS are an asset

A valid class 5 Driver’s License in good standing

The desire and ability to work independently, in the field, in various terrain and weather conditions

Salary \& Benefits:

Pay Rate- $30.61 per hour

Work Schedule:

35-hour workweek, Monday to Friday with some flexibility required

Start date - May 4, 2026, allowing for 4 months overlap with existing Intern per standard practice
