Data Engineer
£48,000 – £55,000

Transforming Learning Group is looking for a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our Engineering team. This is a key role in supporting our mission to help schools transform the way they use data and technology to improve outcomes for pupils.
You will be responsible for designing and maintaining scalable data architectures and building reliable ETL pipelines across internal systems. This role involves working closely with stakeholders across the business to ensure the data they need is accurate, accessible and secure.
Our ideal candidate will have strong technical experience in Python, SQL, and ETL frameworks, with a track record of building reliable, efficient data systems. You’ll be confident working independently, communicating with both technical and non-technical colleagues, and taking ownership of the full data lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for the delivery and maintenance of key data systems, including:
Designing, implementing and maintaining ETL pipelines between core systems
Ensuring data accuracy, integrity and timeliness
Developing scalable data architectures to support future growth
Building monitoring, logging and alerting systems for pipeline performance
Supporting data security and compliance requirements
Creating clear documentation and communicating with internal stakeholders
Requirements:
Strong experience with Python, including pandas for data processing
Proficiency in SQL and database design (Postgres, MySQL or similar)
Experience with ETL/ELT processes and tools (e.g. Dagster, Kafka, AWS Lambda)
Good understanding of data orchestration, schema evolution and testing strategies
Ability to translate business needs into robust data models and SLAs
Experience integrating APIs and working with third-party systems
Excellent documentation and stakeholder communication skills
This opportunity is offered on a full-time basis, working remotely with flexible hours. Some occasional travel may be required for team meetings or project needs.
