Software Developer (Java/ Scala)
Location: Hybrid – Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, London
Permanent £50-70k (Active SC/ Eligible for SC clearance)

Technical Skills
Strong expertise in Java or Scala (preferred)
Experience with languages such as Kotlin, Ruby, or JavaScript
Deep understanding of:
Programming paradigms
Code design
Testing strategies
Accessibility
Performance
Security
Proven ability to apply a range of testing tools and methodologies
Knowledge of delivering complex services aligned to GDS standards
Comfortable adopting new technologies; adaptable and continuously learning
Strong experience working within agile environments
Responsibilities
Driving elaboration and refinement of the team backlog
Defining and implementing effective testing strategies aligned with industry standards
Acting as the technical expert or team lead where required
Leading technical representation during discovery phases
Mentoring and coaching colleagues to support professional growth
Demonstrating leadership within internal communities of practice
