Your Role in Supporting Our Members

As a Senior Full Stack Developer – Data Platform, you will design and deliver scalable data solutions that move, process, and standardize large datasets across our enterprise. Your primary focus (70–80%) will be data engineering—building reliable pipelines on Databricks and cloud platforms, optimizing Spark SQL, and implementing robust data models and ETL/ELT patterns. Your secondary focus (20–30%) will leverage .NET or Java to build and integrate APIs and services that interface with the data platform and downstream applications.

This is a Full‑time, Permanent role based at Vancity head office. Our head office is in Vancouver, and we welcome candidates in BC and Ontario. While this position offers a hybrid work arrangement, you may be required on‑site for events and business needs.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Build modern data pipelines on Databricks using Spark (SQL/PySpark) to ingest, transform, and serve data at scale (batch and, where applicable, streaming).

Design ETL/ELT workflows that ensure data quality, lineage, and reliability across diverse source systems (core banking, SaaS, on‑prem, files, APIs).

Model data for analytics and integration (dimensional modeling, star/snowflake, normalized/denormalized patterns) with performance‑tuned SQL.

Optimize cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) for cost, performance, and resilience; implement storage best practices (e.g., data lake/Delta lake).

Develop and integrate RESTful APIs in .NET or Java to expose curated datasets and platform services securely to consuming applications.

Harden pipelines with monitoring, logging, alerting, and automated validation; champion data governance and security by design.

Collaborate cross‑functionally with product, architecture, security, and application teams to align data solutions with enterprise standards.

Review code and mentor engineers to uphold best practices in data engineering and platform delivery.

Ensure regulatory, audit, and compliance requirements typical of financial institutions are met across data solutions and integrations.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

10+ years in data engineering roles within large, complex environments (banking/insurance or similar preferred).

Hands‑on Databricks experience (workspaces, clusters, notebooks, jobs) and strong Spark SQL/PySpark proficiency.

Advanced SQL skills (e.g., T‑SQL); PL/SQL is a nice‑to‑

Proven experience with ETL/ELT, data warehousing, and large‑scale data movement across heterogeneous sources.

Cloud expertise with Azure or AWS (e.g., Azure Data Lake Storage, Data Factory/Synapse; or AWS equivalents).

Experience integrating data via APIs and building services in .NET (C#) or Java.

Familiarity with CI/CD for data pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps), and automation/IaC is an asset.

Strong understanding of data security, privacy, and governance practices (quality checks, lineage, access controls).

Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills; ability to influence and guide technical decisions.

You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:

Collaborative: You build trust and strong relationships across data, application, and business teams.

Data‑Driven: You make design decisions grounded in performance, reliability, and measurable outcomes.

Detail‑Oriented: You care deeply about data quality, observability, and operational excellence.

Leadership‑Focused: You mentor others and raise the bar for engineering practices and platform standards.

We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don't perfectly align with those listed.

What You’ll Earn:

This role offers a salary range of $125,000 to $160,000. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
