We’re looking for a talented DevOps Engineer to join our team and ensure our infrastructure runs smoothly as we scale.

Job Overview

We are seeking a reliable, Midlands based DevOps Engineer to join

vcomerz

on a full time basis and is flexible for a Hybrid Work Set up. You will manage our infrastructure across three servers (development, beta, and production), with our production server hosted on AWS and additional projects running on GCP and Azure. This role requires minimum 36 hours per week, spread across 7 days a week, and demands a candidate who can commute to our Derby office consistently. We prioritize recent postgraduates with 5 years of experience who are passionate about building scalable, secure systems for a retail SaaS platform.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Management:

Oversee and maintain

vcomerz

’s three servers (dev, beta, prod), ensuring high availability, performance, and security.

Cloud Operations:

Manage our production server on AWS (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS), with additional responsibilities for projects on GCP and Azure.

CI/CD Pipelines:

Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins) for

vcomerz

’s deployments, ensuring smooth rollouts across environments.

Monitoring and Incident Response:

Monitor system performance (e.g., using CloudWatch, Prometheus) and respond to incidents, minimizing downtime for retailers during peak events like Black Friday.

Security and Compliance:

Implement security best practices (e.g., IAM roles, encryption) and ensure compliance with GDPR for

vcomerz

user data.

Collaboration:

Work closely with our Backend and Front End Developers to support deployments, troubleshoot issues, and improve infrastructure.

Automation:

Automate repetitive tasks (e.g., using Terraform, Ansible) to enhance efficiency across

vcomerz

’s environments.

Documentation:

Maintain clear documentation of infrastructure, processes, and incident responses for the team.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience:

5 years of DevOps experience, with a strong track record in cloud infrastructure management.

Education:

Recent postgraduate degree (e.g., MSc in Computer Science, Cloud Computing, or related field) preferred.

Cloud Expertise:

Hands-on experience with AWS (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, ELB), with familiarity in GCP and Azure.

CI/CD Tools:

Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).

Infrastructure as Code:

Experience with tools like Terraform or CloudFormation for provisioning infrastructure.

Monitoring:

Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana) to ensure system health.

Scripting:

Strong scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar for automation.

Security:

Understanding of security best practices (e.g., IAM, encryption, firewalls) and GDPR compliance.

Commute Reliability:

Must be based in or near Derby, UK, with the ability to commute to our office whenever the need arise throughout the week.

Preferred Skills

Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for scaling
