Your role at Veezu:
The Senior Android Engineer will be a foundational hire in the mobile engineering team, taking direct, full ownership of our flagship Android Passenger application. This role is a critical mandate to modernise, transform, and elevate the quality of an application used daily by tens of thousands of users across the UK. You’ll be working with a small but senior group of engineers, directly influencing the mobile architecture, user experience, and delivery processes.
Reporting directly to the VP of Engineering (or Head of Engineering), this role will have significant autonomy and responsibility in shaping the future of our mobile platform, ensuring it meets Veezu’s high standards for performance, reliability, and security at scale.
Who are Veezu?
Veezu is the UK's fastest growing taxi and private hire technology platform operating across hundreds of UK towns and cities. We are a tech-driven on-demand mobility service that supports our hyper-local communities, helping them thrive and so much more!
What you'll do:
Own the Flagship App: Rapidly gain deep technical understanding and take over the development and maintenance of the existing Android Passenger application from the current third-party agency.
Establish Excellence: Define, champion, and implement world-class mobile engineering standards, including modern coding practices, rigorous code reviews, and robust CI/CD pipelines specific to the Android platform.
Modernisation Drive: Lead the technical roadmap for the app, driving large-scale architectural improvements and the adoption of modern technologies, particularly Jetpack Compose, to ensure long-term stability and maintainability.
Quality and Testing: Proactively define and implement comprehensive testing strategies (unit, UI, and instrumentation tests) to ensure a high-quality user experience and rapid, safe feature deployment.
Collaboration: Work closely with Product Managers, UX/UI Designers, and Backend Engineers to translate complex business requirements into high-performance, polished mobile features.
Contribute to defining the team’s culture of openness, curiosity, strong communication, and technical ownership.
Be committed to maintaining our ISO27001 certification and set high standards for Information Security compliance.
What you’ll need:
Android Mastery: Proficiency in Kotlin (preferred language) and Java for legacy support. Deep expertise in modern UI development with Jetpack Compose and Material Design components.
Architecture \& Patterns: Mastery of architecture patterns such as MVVM, MVP, and Clean Architecture for scalable and maintainable codebases. Strong knowledge of the Android SDK and key Jetpack libraries (LiveData, ViewModel, Room).
Delivery \& Integration: Advanced skills in asynchronous programming with Kotlin Coroutines and concurrency management. Expertise with dependency injection frameworks like Dagger or Hilt. Experience with RESTful API integration, third-party services, and handling complex multi-threaded code.
Testing \& Debugging: Competence in unit testing, UI testing (Espresso), instrumentation testing, and advanced debugging with Android Studio tools.
Security Focus: Deep, applied knowledge of security best practices for Android apps, including permission management, data encryption, and secure authentication protocols.
A strong product mindset combined with the ability to make sound technical trade-offs that maximise business and customer impact.
Bias toward action, thriving in an environment where speed, iteration, and ownership matter.
Be committed to maintaining our ISO27001 certification and setting high standards for Information Security compliance.
Where you’ll be:
This role will be hybrid, with the expectation that you will travel to and work from our hubs across the UK and Ireland as and when needed for the proper performance of your role.
Veezu is committed to fair and inclusive recruitment, welcoming applications from all backgrounds, experiences, and communities.
