DevOps Engineer – OpenShift CI/CD Automation

Whitehall resources are looking for an DevOps Engineer – OpenShift CI/CD Automation. This role is hybrid working with 3 days per week onsite in Sheffield, and the remainder remote working, for an initial 3-6 month contract.

Job Description:

The DevOps Engineer will ensure smooth integration of development and operations processes during the migration from VMware to OpenShift. This role focuses on building and optimizing CI/CD pipelines, automating deployments, managing containerized workloads, and maintaining platform reliability and scalability. The engineer will work closely with development, infrastructure, and operations teams to deliver secure, efficient, and compliant solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support application deployment and migration to OpenShift.

Automate provisioning and configuration of OpenShift clusters and containerized workloads.

Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless migration and operational readiness.

Implement and manage container image build, scanning, and deployment workflows.

Optimize platform performance, scalability, and reliability through automation and monitoring.

Integrate pipelines with source control systems (e.g., GitLab, GitHub) and build tools.

Troubleshoot pipeline and deployment issues, ensuring minimal downtime during migration.

Maintain compliance with security, governance, and regulatory standards.

Continuously improve automation practices by adopting emerging DevOps tools and methodologies.

Required Skills \& Experience:

Strong experience in OpenShift and Kubernetes administration, including cluster management and workload orchestration.

Expertise in CI/CD pipeline tools such as Jenkins and GitLab CI.

Proficiency in Ansible automation and Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform.

Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker) and image registries.

Knowledge of scripting languages (Bash, Python) for automation tasks.

Understanding of security best practices for containerized and cloud environments.

Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
